The Town of Greenwich holds land records dating as far back as the 17th century. A first stop in obtaining information about researching a historic property begins with performing deed research in land records. Additionally, survey maps dating from the 19th century can be found for many properties as well.

The Town of Greenwich is also home to the Historic District Commission (“HDC”) whose purview is to review proposed changes to structures and landscapes within the Historic Districts, provide the Planning & Zoning Commission with comments on applications and promote the concept of preserving historic structures and landscapes in the Town. The HDC always welcomes questions regarding historic preservation and is happy to discuss the variety of incentives that can be implemented towards preserving structures. There is no fee involved.
